WELCOME TO MY KORN PAGE
Korn Bio: Korn is a hardkore hip-hop influenced band from Bakersfield, California. In 1988 Reginald "Fieldy Snuts" Arvizu, James "Munky" Shaffer, David Silveria, and Richard Morales were in the band L.A.P.D. (Love And Peace, Dude). Morales quit the band in 1992. Shaffer, Arvizu, and Silveria decided to continue, changing the band's name to Creep and bringing Brian "Head" Welch in as a second guitarist. The band needed the right singer. Fortunatly, Munky and Head discovered Jonathan Davis, singer in the band Sex Art, when the were visiting friends in Bakersfield. "We were at this club, checking out one of our friends' bands," says Shaffer. "This other band came on, and Head and I were getting ready to leave, but then we heard the singer and were blown away! We looked at each other and decided we had to have him join our band." Because Sex Art was only a marginally successful band, Davis gave the offer some serious thought, especially since he was enticed by the idea of relocating to Los Angeles. Davis soon agreed after he consulted his aunt, a psychic who told him that he would be very successful if he joined the band.
Initially, Davis was not into the style of music played by Creep. "I was into Duran Duran, Missing Persons and Flock Of Seagulls," he admits. "When I joined the band, I had no clue what to do. I hadn't ever listened to that kind of music. I just opened my mouth and sang whatever I was feeling." To the band's surprise, those feelings were extremely dark and disturbing. Davis had survived and extremely troubling childhood, enduring an abusive step-mother, the taunts of other children calling him "faggot" and, apparently, sexual abuse by an unknown adult- a subject that Davis still declines to talk about. However, he denies that he was abused by his father, and assumption taht was made by journalists after hearing his emotionally charged performance of "Daddy." This rumor was further fueled by the fact that Korn have played the song live only once and that Davis refuses to perform it to this day. Davis also was influenced by the horrors he witnessed while working as an autopsy assistant for the Kern County Coroner's department (he holds a degree from San Francisco's School of Mortuary Science). From the things he saw there, he had to go to counseling. He had post-traumatic stress disorder (the thing people got in Vietnam from seeing all the horror.
Korn now has four very successful albums: their self-titled debut album, Korn; the hard-hitting second album, Life Is Peachy; The very successful third album, Follow The Leader; and the new one, Issues.
